An Era of Inability to Read

The frequent obsession with Bilibili only started this year. Previously, I only watched recorded videos of certain streamers on Bilibili, scrolling through updates before going to sleep. Now, I often linger on the recommendation page for a long time, mechanically scrolling down repeatedly even if I can't find any interesting videos.

Video self-media is undoubtedly a new trend. In the past, when text-based information dominated, some self-media outlets delivered a heavy blow to traditional media with their timeliness and topics driven by the pursuit of novelty and curiosity, despite lacking verification. Nowadays, the actual work and content quality of these practitioners haven't changed much in essence; they have just taken on a different form. Previously, writers would draft articles, editors would review them, and after typesetting, they could meet the readers. Now, a presenter in front of the camera and post-production editing are also required. The entire content production process demands more from the team, becomes longer, and creates more job opportunities.

With the continuous development of technology, the video format offers more possibilities for content expression. Today's video self-media content is akin to the relationship between films and certain printed novels. On this new medium, readers become viewers, and viewers access content in a more intuitive and concrete manner.

This also reminds me of earlier popular audio programs, such as Logic Thinking, which, in retrospect, actually pioneered the current trend of knowledge-sharing programs on Bilibili. Thinking back to those programs I listened to at night, I can now vividly imagine the content paired with Teacher Luo sitting in the middle of the screen speaking eloquently, complemented by Bilibili's UI, creating a seamless experience.

I used to force myself to read a bit, but now I find that the time I can spend reading is decreasing. I only occasionally open WeChat Reading to check the bookshelf, and I rarely open the Southern Weekend app anymore. I managed to escape a wave of information kidnapping by uninstalling Weibo, but it seems I still haven't been spared.
